| Last weekend (3/21 & 3/22), in collaboration with the Bedford Hills FD and Castle Auto & Towing, we once again brought our Advanced Extrication Open Enrollment Weekend to Westchester.
This undertaking takes a lot of hands to make a reality—from vehicle donations, to logistics, to site prep and securing the training grounds. All of it is worth it when you see the level of training and the skills taken away by those who attend.
The weekend was split into two parts:
Day 1 – Scenario-Based Training (6 Stations):
• Tree on Car – Life / Stabilization
• Overturned / Side-Rest Stabilization
• Tenting & Tunneling
• “Doors, Roof, Dash” – Full Vehicle Extrication
• Mini Bus on a Car Lift
• Heavy Lift with an MTA Bus
Day 2 – Technical, Student-Driven Scenarios:
More intricate situations that required multiple tactics working together. Instructors stepped back and let the students put it all together, building off what was learned on Day 1.
As you can see from the photos—we didn’t make it easy.
We had both new attendees and returning members, all pushed to think, adapt, and perform.
We can’t thank everyone enough who made this happen. The Chiefs, Staff, and Commissioners of the Bedford Hills FD,
Frank from Castle Auto—who continues to come through for Signal 73, Bob & Laurie D for handling logistics and keeping everyone squared away, Chappaqua Crossing for the use of the training grounds, the agencies that provided apparatus & equipment, and A&S Fine Foods for keeping everyone fed. And most importantly—the departments that continue to send their members and support our mission of bringing real-world, experience-based training to this area.
