Instructor Bryan Doyle was in Sleepy Hollow, New York (Westchester) delivering his signature Electric Vehicle & Lithium-Ion Hazards Class.

The fire service is seeing these incidents more and more-whether it’s on the roadway, in a driveway, or inside a structure. These aren’t your typical fires, and they demand a different mindset and approach from the jump.

The class covered:
•EV identification & vehicle anatomy
•Lithium-ion battery behavior and thermal runaway
•Fire attack considerations & limitations
•Cooling vs. extinguishment tactics
Strut hazards, re-ignition concerns, and long-term monitoring
•Real-world street considerations from companies actively dealing with these incidents

This isn’t theory-it’s based on what’s actually being encountered on the street right now. Having your membership prepared for these incidents is necessary. This class also will bring to light the amount of these hazards you might have in your first due you didn’t even realize.

We want to thank the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department for bringing us in to provide them this course as the educational portion of celebrating their 150th year of service. We look forward to working with you again and officially having you as part of the Signal 73 family of agencies.

If your agency hasn’t started tackling EV & lithium-ion incidents head on, now’s the time. Reach out to Josh at: jmiller@signal73fire.com to bring this program to your department.
