Signal 73 recently spent the day with the Ridgefield Fire Department (Fairfield County, Conn.) with members of their career staff as well as their volunteers, for a hands-on vehicle extrication and stabilization program.

Members worked through a variety of stabilization and extrication scenarios, focusing on vehicle stabilization, patient access, disentanglement, and efficient tool operations. The day culminated with a challenging underride scenario that required firefighters to apply the skills and techniques practiced throughout the training.

In addition to the hands-on evolutions, we assisted the department in placing their newly acquired Griphoists into service, reviewing setup, operation, safety considerations, and practical applications for heavy vehicle stabilization and rescue incidents. A special thank you to AAA Fire Supply for helping equip Ridgefield with these valuable tools.

Thank you to the officers and members of Ridgefield volunteer and career staff for their commitment to training and their dedication to continually improving their rescue capabilities.
