| This week, members from the Sound Beach Fire Department located in Greenwich CT, participated in our aggressive search class, Making the Grab without Grabbing the line”— a class built around one of the most critical and time-sensitive tasks on the fireground: making the grab when conditions are at their worst.
This course focuses on the mindset, decision-making, and tactics required to conduct aggressive, intelligent primary searches before a line is in place, as well as when a line is in place.
Students covered:
• Search priorities and victim profiling
• Oriented vs. un-oriented search techniques
• Maintaining crew integrity in zero visibility
• Reading smoke, heat, and building layouts
• Search rope considerations and when to deploy
• Fast, effective room-to-room movement
Aggressive search is a a skill that demands training, awareness, and a solid understanding of fire behavior and building construction.
